Wondering if the 250K actually happened after JFK's death? Only =
customer I was aware of was Radio Australia...Dave Giovanazzi (now dead) =
made several trips to Australia to make the thing work with the Collins =
C-8400 computer system for band changes. The radio was built =
(initially) in building 108, which was not done until about 1965. Dick =
Weinrich (long since SK...had QST articles on filters) was one of the =
engineers that worked the radio.
URG-1 (Universal Radio Group) could have been comprised of a 205J-1 =
22k/45k PA. The exciter could have been a repackaged KWT-6 (known as a =
618Z-1 receiver/exciter only). Military used this stuff in their Short =
Order network. We had 3 of them in CR. =20
The 205J took less than 1 watt for full output at 45Kw..! Short Order =
net and CR (including Andrews AFB SSB Network) had dial capability for =
radios including the Far East via the Pricilla Ellen Network. Actually, =
the 205J could be driven by an old HP 608 Signal Generator ... to =
45Kw..!
