Tim, thank you for doing your "homework" to bring this information to us
Collins owners.
This is the kind of information that you only find on this terrific mail
list.

Thank you again - very much appreciated.

Subject: [Collins] My K3 problem solved and maybe yours too

Hi all:

I found a nearly drop-in replacement for the TR relay in my KWM-2 here
locally in N.J. It is Potter & Brumfield #KA-11DDY-110.
It is ever so slightly larger than the original P&B KR-2565, but fits nicely
anyway.

The only problem is that the lugs for the coil on the original were angled
back toward the rear of the chassis while the coil lugs on this one come
straight out the sides. The result is that one of the supply leads from K2
can't reach (it's the lug on the case side of the relay)and the Collins
wiring harnesses are so perfect that there's no slack. A simple hookup wire
splice solved the problem. In fact, I got the wire by cutting one of the
pigtails off the old relay (same gauge and the perfect length) so,
technically speaking, there's still only "original" wire in the unit (for
the purists in the crowd).

Now for the best part: P&B has discontinued this item, but the place where I
got it had 39 of these babies (well, 38 now) and they're only $26 plus tax.
That's less than half the price of the Surplus Sales replacements.

The store is Green Brook Electronics and they're in Green Brook, NJ. Their
phone # is (732) 968-3500. I neglected to ask if they'll ship, but if not,
let me know; maybe I can be a runner for those of you who need or want the
part. Just let me know.

Anyway, KWM-2 #411 is now back on the air. Maybe I'll catch some of you on
the nets.

Tim
