Hello all,
I just wanted to share a recent experience at a large international airport.
I went to the airport to pick up some relatives and upon entering the short
term parking area I was stopped for a vehicles search prior to entering..
In the trunk, I had a KWM2A that I had picked up from a friend and as well
as a 2 M rig up front...
The security officer wanted to see a copy of my license so I showed it to
him and he wanted to know what frequencies that the KWM2A covered and I told
him from 3 to 30 MHz and he wanted to then see paperwork giving the specs on
it and a copy of the FCC certification of the radio. I told him that these
were formally used by the Military and I have no idea about the FCC
certification. I thought I was going to lose the radio on the spot.
He refused to let me enter with the radio, so we left and I took it to a
friends house and dropped it off and went back. This time he wanted to see
the FCC certification for the 2 M radio and again he would not let me enter.
I called the relatives on my cell phone and they took a cab to a nearby
convenience store where I met them.
So,,,,,,,, be careful about what you try and take to an airport parking
lot. Oh yes, he even wanted to the see the cert. of medical necessity for
my O2 tank that I had beside me. Looks like they are checking out cars with
call letter plates real close..
