[Collins] Greetings!! (and a question)

Hi Jorge:
I have a nice 51J-4 here that I recently got working. Look for one with all
three 500-kc filters.
Also, note that the "doghouse" that houses the filters, the filter IF
amplifier, and the rotary switch that selects the filters, is almost
inaccessible. It's a terrible design that doesn't lend itself to maintenance
or reparability.
Also, the printed paper dial drum sometimes gets badly discolored. Mine was
restorable by washing with a dilute solvent (however you can get a new
replacement).

Subject: [Collins] Greetings!! (and a question)
Greetings to everyone on the list, from a very recent subscriber.
And now the question. Im considering buying a non-working Collins 51J-4.
Any suggestions on possible pitfalls I should look out for and specific
(model related) restoration recommendations?
Thanks in advance for your comments,
Best 73s
Jorge
