I am certainly not the definitive word on paint but my suggestion would be
to find a paint supplier in your locale - even Home Depot or Lowes has a
"computer laser" machine that can match paint, depending on whether they
have the base paint. I have had a quart of Saint James Gray mixed at Lowes,
if I remember, and it is an excellent match. But, you must give them a
sample. Of course, you cannot take the cabinet from a 75A-3 to Lowes, etc.
and have them come up with a forumula because they need to slide the piece
that you are trying to match under an inspection mirror on the "computer"
device. What I would recommend is that you remove the lid which is not that
big of a job and take it to Lowes, Home Depot, etc. and have them scan the
surface. The underside of the top lid may work - I don't know since I am
writing this from home and all the Collins is at the Collins Radio Center,
some five miles from here at our farm.

Ask for an enamel base for touch up. Worked for me. Buy a few artists
brushes at WalMart or K-Mart and some paint thinner. I would dab the paint
to get a simulated wrinkle finish. Trial and error until you get it right.

There have been gobs of opinions on retouching Collins equipment that
appeared in early issues of the Collins Journal over the nine years - has it
been that long - that the CJ has been in print.

Remember Field Day on the 22nd and 23rd at the Collins Radio Center Open
House, if you care to stop by for a visitation and to enjoy some good food.
Ya all come, now!

Will do. I guess he got buried with orders. I know of no one out there
that is supplying custom paint for these old boatanchors. There have been
several suppliers that quit the business. I can imagine the problems with
supplying paint that is slightly off a color shade. Some folks are very
pickey!
