Anthony, if you are a new ham and don't think an FT-1000MP is enough radio
for you, you might keep it a while and give your operating skills time to
catch up with your equipment, which they eventually will if you work at it.
The MP is one of the top four or five rigs around. It is used by many
experienced DX operators, and is noted for excellent receive audio. But like
most modern and complex rigs, it has *many* complex operator controls which
will affect the sound of that audio. Two weeks is likely not enough time for
a new ham to learn to properly set it up and operate it. You might enlist
the help of an experienced ham to learn the functions of the many controls
at first, and do a LOT of reading.

Secondly, while many tube radios (including the KWM-2A) are excellent
equipment, they can be somewhat difficult to get and keep working at top
performance without some level of troubleshooting and maintenance expertise
on high voltage tube equipment - which you probably lack at this point in
your ham career. Putting your fingers inside one of those radios in the
wrong place can get you killed. Modern low voltage equipment is much safer
for a beginner. Certain modes of operation such as CW, which I hope you are
trying to cultivate, can also be a frustrating exercise with many older
radios, particularly the Collins S-line and KWM-2 series, because they were
designed with SSB in mind.

Welcome to ham radio, and have fun, but don't dive off the deep end until
you learn to dog paddle. In the long run, it will be more fun if you learn
it right! Good luck.

73, Jerry W5KP
