There is some photographic evidence I've seen that a few radios were
converted from winged to round emblem at the factory. A clue would be
that the screw heads were painted the same color as the panel with the
same gloss, e.g. the same batch of paint. If the screw heads don't match
the panel perfectly then there is a hint that it was done outside
Collins' facilities. If the screw heads weren't phillips it would be
sure sign Collins didn't do it.
I don't know that 30L1 serial numbers were randomized like the S-line so
I don't know if serial number can be used to differentiate between
production runs.
Its probable that 30L1 were built in discrete production runs and some
could easily have been built with winged emblems and been in stock when
the decree to change came through and so changing was far more
profitable than scrapping or drastic reworking (new front panels).
I have no evidence to prove any of this.
