Hi all, after a long hiatus, I have rejoined the discussion group. I suspect
the following question has been tossed around before, but I have not seen it.
Recently, I recapped a 75A-4 using the recommendations of Chuck and Butch. It
made a world of difference in the way the old girl played. I have a very nice
51J-3 and it plays really well also. I thought I'd replace some of the bypass
caps in it. To my surprise, all the caps are the 'dogbone' type. Did Collins
do this because it was a military radio? I guess the 51J-3 is the same as an
R-388, but don't understand why they would use such different caps (other
than cost).
In all my experience testing caps with the HV 'leakage' method, I've never
found a bad 'dogbone'.
Any differing experience?
thanks, Ron
