[Collins] 4:1 gear sets.

Wal, I've been watching EBay for quite a while, and have seen perhaps
10 or a dozen of the knob/gear sets come through. I'm sure I missed a
few. But I usually put them on my watch page.

By the time the bids got to the final "sniper" bid at the end, all but
ONE were over $350 (to my recollection, anyway). The low one ended on
the July 4 holiday weekend. Bad choice by the seller.

One of them had a busted knob that had been glued together. Fella that
auctioned it off is an acquaintance of mine. He was flabbergasted that
it, too, brought over $350.

There have been two that were guaranteed new, one still in a sealed
plastic bag. The rest, who knows. Maybe the knob wiggled a little or
the bearing was worn, or it turned a little funny or ... Except for
the rare one, they are USED. We are at the bottom of a recession. They
are going to go UP. Two years from now you will be paying over 400 for
them on EBay, maybe next year.

Now you have an opportunity to have one hand-made out of modern
materials, brand-spanking new.

Unless you know one of the guys that buys two and winds up not needing
one. This, NOW, is your opportunity to get one.

Think straight. Are you going to get one or not? Figure it out, make
up your mind. IF you are going to get one, put the money aside.

If you futz around and whine and try to dink Dutch down on something
that ain't dinkable, two years from now you will be kicking yourself
in the butt that you didn't make up your waffling mind and go for it.

You want him to GIVE you part of the cost out of his pocket? Get real.
There is exactly ONE way to reduce the cost and he's told you what it
is, and he's doing all the leg work. Time to fish or cut bait.

73, Guy.

PS, Dutch, did you put some classifieds out on this? If you want, I'll
go post some stuff.

spirit). Bottom line is they don't make 'em anymore. This is probably
one of your last chances to get a NEWLY MANUFACTURED gear set.

new cabinets that had been discontinued a year or so before. This was
for the SP-600 rcvr. I even gave the customers a break to the tune of
having them just pay the cost of the cabinet plus whatever overhead
expenses were involved. Still had some folks griping. No matter. I got
my two cabinets and everyone got theirs. This will probably the last
great run of Premier cabinets ever for the Hammarlund (and some
Collins units). Hey, I've heard they have been selling them on ebay
for twice the amount I sold them.

(albiet repro) item for your prized Collins 75A4 (which if it doesn't
have one, you should get one).
