Likely all the oiled paper capacitors, especially the AGC bypass and
time constant capacitors have gotten excessively leaky. All old radios
do it. Its also probable that the selenium rectifier in the bias circuit
as well as the filter capacitors in the power supply are failing. That
you should notice as high PA idling current. Old selenium rectifiers
develop a high series resistance and a low back resistance. Old
electrolytics get leaky and develop a series resistance so they don't
act as much like a capacitor as resistors, then the resistor part
overheats and they expand rapidly. Cleaning the conductive shreds out of
a chassis, I've not found to be a fun task.
