Last year I bought this receiver as a project but a person can have too many
projects and I need to pass on a few of them to someone with more time and
experience then me. Here are the details as I presently know them......
===============================
Original comments from the seller:
I have a Collins 51S-1 Receiver for sale. It is not in good condition and has a
dent in the lower left front panel. The main tuning knob is binding when
turned. The receiver is a round emblem serial 4551. The 100 KHz marker crystal
is missing and the rear panel AC power connector is missing so the AC line cord
is wired directly through the power connector to the transformer. The receiver
is dirty/dusty. It has
filters for 2.75 KHz SSB and 800 Hz CW. Main tuning knob is the weighted type.
As far as I can tell, all other parts are in the receiver including tubes,
meter, and all original knobs. The cabinet is the original 51S-1 type and not a
converted one. I have not fired up the receiver as it belongs to a friend.

My comments:
Correct case and trim ring. Need cleaning and painting.
Correct knobs. Tuning knob needs painting.
Calibrator crystal installed.
Main tuning knob is not binding.
Front panel has nicks and scratches.
Round emblem missing retaining clip.
All switches and controls work.
Missing bottom shield but I have a drawing to make one.
Missing funky tube shield for VFO.
All tubes good.
Has audio rush and calibrator on low band AM but no signals.
No audio rush, calibrator, or signals on the other bands.
Does not work on all modes.
Calibrator fiduciary plastic dial needs repair or replacing.
Has corrosion on some of the under side screws.
An original AC socket has been installed.
Has AC power cable with plug.
Dent to side panel and corner of front panel repaired.
Chassis top side carefully cleaned.
Original manual.

No troubleshooting done other then to repair the filament strings. General or
specific pictures available on request. Box with formed foam lining available
for shipping.

I know this is not worth what one would sell for in nice condition, so please
make a reasonable offer based on the condition described.

73, gary
