I am refinishing my 75A-4, KWS-1 and 270G3 (they were awful and I had
nothing to lose no matter how they turned out) and while the overspray of
St. James Grey makes the cabinets look significantly better than before, I'm
wonder what techiques the readers may have developed to minimize or
eliminate nicks, chips, gouges and rubs in the crackle finish?
Flaring out the scrapes may look a bit better than leaving chipped edges but
it doesn't address the lack of the crackle finish in those areas. I have
tried a crackle undercoat but that doesn't really seem to do the job either,
hence my need for greater knowledge in this area.
The overspray covers all the bad areas very nicely with the right color but
depending on viewing angle one can still see traces of "damage" even as
seemingly insignificant as rubs that don't go through the paint. Maybe
that's why Howard Mills' method is to bead blast and start over from bare
metal to yield superior results.
The S-line is so much easier to refinish because of the smooth paint!
Thanks for any info.
