The shield on the 6BA7 should cut back on oscillator and IF harmonic
radiation and maybe on IF leakage into the beginning of the IF strip.
The tube being relatively nonlinear does produce many undesired outputs.

The 6AL5 is quite nonlinear and the shield should reduce radiation of IF
harmonics that otherwise could cause birdies in the radio or lead to a
bit if IF instability by getting back into the 6BA7 at the beginning of
the IF.

Then the bayonet tube shields will hold the tubes in the sockets while
Railway Express drops the radio in its shipping box.
