Thanks to all members of the List who responded to my query coinecerning =
my ailing KWM-2. The rig is now up and fully operational and the =
winnner of the "GOLD STAR" for correct technical advise is Dr. Jerry =
Johnson, K0CQ, our own CRA Technical Advisor and former Collins' =
engineer. Jerry suggested that I had either a PA bandswitch which was =
off frequency or a shorted loading capicator. I had already checked the =
PA bandswitch and knew that it was operating correctly, but Jerry's =
second suggestion proved to be exactly on target. I found that one of =
the padder capacitors (C155 in this case) for adjusting the settings of =
the loading capacitor had been tightened to its fully closed position by =
some prior owner/technician. Apparently, changes in temperature and/or =
humidity had caused the capacitor to short, thereby causing a short =
across the loading capacitor and the symptoms which I had described. =
Simply loosening the capacitor by two turns cured the problem. Thank =
you, Jerry! The expertise on this List is truly a wonderful resource =
for all Collins' owners.
