Hi Jerry,
A couple of questions; I have been faced with similar situations during my
professional career (I am now retired.)
1. How would Art Collins have responded to a clause in an RFP or SOW,
explicitly specifying a component type which he disdained, or precluding use
of a component type which he favoured? Would he have "no-bid" even a large,
lucrative contract over such an issue?
2. How would he have reacted had his insistence upon a particular component
type or design approach placed the affected radio system in breach of ITU or
national radio regulations, thereby closing off one or more potentially
significant markets for the affected product?

There was plenty of that without mergers. Between banks insisting on
reductions in white collar work force as conditions for giving loans and
the propensity to hire twice as many recent BSEE engineers as needed.
Before the end of their first year those excess were fired.
