I will have my BC-221 on the air today, 2000z, (That is 1300 MST), 8 Jan. 2019.
Frequency = 7032 kHz +/-2. Operating portable at Ice Station Zebra with 10W,
< http://tinyurl.com/zgss4yu>,
The QSL for today is the NGC7000 Nebula.
My old BC-221 was lifted from the Scrap Heap of eBay to world wide prominence in 2018. It came from Wes (W9YYH), The case was corroding in the damp corner of his garage. The silver plating on the Tuning Capacitor had turned to thick black oxide. The smoke from WW2 cigarettes and MFP permeated the inside of the case.
It was repurposed into a new CW rig in 2017.
See CQ Magazine: "QRP Radio Disguised as a BC-221”, Feb. 2018, p. 16-17.
And "Sherlock Investigates: Fire in BC-221”, March 2018, p. 47.
Here is a web picture of the BC-221: < http://www.richardsradios.co.uk/bc221.html>.
It kept every one on the right frequency during WW2.
They even had them in aircraft.
.
This is a 40 meter only rig and has a range from 7018 to 7037 kHz.
It also has an Audio Amp and a 4 States CW audio filter, <http://www.4sqrp.com<http://www.4sqrp.com/>>.
It weighs about 15 pounds with a 12V (3S2P - 26650) LiIon battery pack.
ps: The first converted QRP BC-221 was made by Mark, KA9ooi, and is in QST, Nov. 2011, p.76.
You can see the sky conditions at <http://www.utepasscams.com/teller-one-webcam.html>. At night on this camera you can see 4th magnitude stars, planes, meteors and clouds in the northwestern sky. The mountains in the distance are on the continental divide. The camera is at 9600 feet and is pointed at Ice Station Zebra, it has a field of view of 40 degrees.
The low temp tonight is going to be 10F.
