WA2XRM Beacon is on the air tonight, 1 Jan. 2019 (Zulu day) ,
on 479.700 kHz. Transmitting CW from Colorado Springs, CO.
Happy New Year…
WA2XRM started operating in June 1998 on 162/166 kHz after the GWEN System was terminated. Then moved up to 480 kHz in the year 2000 after the USCG abandoned 600 meters. Transmissions have been heard Coast to Coast and North to Alaska.
It has been a great experiment... Hope to make it to 30 years.
The story was described in CQ Magazine, Feb. 2017, p. 26-27.
