HI Guys and Gals,
D-10 is offering something new! We know that many of you are new to the
hobby and trying to find your way. In the past, experienced operators have
always provided guidance to new hams. Because of (relatively new) licensing
practices, many new hams have studied and gotten their license on their own,
or have been to one of many license study classes. Unfortunately we have not
let you have the benefits that we received when we entered the hobby by
having a source of information for all things technical, procedural and in
general which make new hams better hams and allowing them to develop good
practices.
We have recruited some of the best elmers in the hobby. People who can
answer your questions regarding technical, practical questions, procedural
questions, etc. Some as simple as how to hook up a mobile radio, some more
difficult as to how it actually operates. Then there are those who want to
go farther in the hobby and learn to build or troubleshoot equipment.
Perhaps just learn the finer points of how to be a good net control. Maybe
something as simple as what good protocol is for being a good operator.
What's appropriate and perhaps things that might be less acceptable.
Our goal is to help each and every one of you become the best operator you
can be! We want our ARES group to have the very best and most rounded
operators anywhere. By participating in this list we hope we can help you
achieve that goal.
Here is how it works. We have set up an e-mail reflector on Yahoo. You
will need to sign up on the list called ARES D-10 Ask AN Elmer. You will
have to be approved to be on the list. We take care of that. It is a
moderated list and open to ARES members and local area hams. When you have a
question, you submit it to the list. The question will not immediately
appear on the list, rather it will be farmed out to one of our resident
experts on the topic you have asked the question in. When the expert
replies, the question and the answer will be posted to the list at one time.
This is in an effort to avoid confusion or conflict in answers to the
members of the list and insure you get the same quality answers we got when
we came into the hobby.
You may view the home page on Yahoo for this site at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/D10Elmer/
We hope that this is a feature that you will use and benefit from this new
service/list.
Thanks to all of the volunteers to help Elmer the new list and provide
timely, accurate and helpful information to all the newer hams (or hams who
could benefit from this forum).
73,
Randy, W0AVV
