There was a little discussion at the face to face meeting about
batteries, so I thought I'd do a little (very little) research. I work with
someone who owns a small portable battery pack (12V 5AH) with a built in AC
inverter. The pack has a 12V car accessory type plug (10A rated), and a 50W
continuous rated AC inverter. I found a write up from another EMCOMM person
at: < http://www.commtechreview.net/amaradio/vector.htm >. The pictures seem
to be missing, but the review is informative. The company that makes these
is on the web at: < http://www.vectormfg.com > and if you click on the
"closeouts" link on the left side of the page, the VEC018AC "Pocket
Generator" is about halfway down the page with pictures, etc. The price is
$29.99, which is pretty darn good, I've seen them for around $50.00
elsewhere. They include an AC adapter for charging, and a DC-DC cord for
charging. I'm ordering one today for the go-bag!
They also have various sized batteries available in the "parts"
section, such as a 17AH 12V battery for $29.99.
