[Cliffdwellers] Vertical Antenna

I am having problems with computations.  Every time I try to compute, (via a
calculator) the size, (diameter) and number of turns of #12 wire, (#12 cause
that's what I have enough supply of) to wind a coil for 40m with a 102"
whip, I've done this 5 times and keep coming up with a different answer
every time.

So if someone could tell me the dimensions of the coil  OR  give me the
formula that is different then what is in the ARRL Antenna Book, it would be
very appreciated.

I am trying to make a portable vertical antenna with 102" whip for 40m and
30m.
