[Cliffdwellers] Low Profile Loop Antenna

WOW someone on the reflector. I havenot received anything for a long time.

I am in SE BC near the border above Spokane WA.

I have worked someone in eastern US. Barely! He was using the eves trough
around the house. I looked into doing the same thing. Different people warned me
about the following, I donot know if it is true but there seems to be something in it.

The concentration of the RF in the centre of the loop will be in the house. This
could cause problems with various electronic equipment. The proximity to RF for
humans should be considered as well. One person stated that various RF
interference were received with a loop around the house.

I think it depends upon the power, grounding and connections of the various wires in
the house.

A fellow ham here bought a Slinky antenna, stretched it to 20m dipole size in an
inverted 'V' and worked 80m to the coast of BC. You might look into other reports
of the Slinky.

Another thought is if you have a wooden roof to mount a dipole in the roof. I saw a
diagram of a variant, it had one wire running outside down the side of the house,
then off to one side about 8ft above the ground. The wire inside was a cage
arrangement. I donna if it worked.

I wonder if anyone out there is using a loop antenna at roof and/or
eves level? I have enough room for a full wave loop for 40 meters
which would be at about 22 - 28 feet AGL. It would run around the
eves on the long sides of the house with the short sides lying on the
top of the tile roof. I would feed it with an SGC tuner mounted under
the eves. Fortunately, from an RF perspective, the builder seems to
have omitted the metal flashing at the edge of the roof, so I would
think this would reduce coupling problems.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has used this type of
setup. Is it practical for DX or does it turn out to be too much of
an NVIS antenna.

Thanks & 73.
