Hi to the list
Looking for info-I picked up a pretty nice 100V that has an unknown history
and no idea when it was last used or when it was last working. Initial
inspection shows everything to be original and very little if any hands have
been inside. I have not worked on the 100V or 200V but have a fair amount of
experience with other CE gear including the 10A, 10B. 20A, 600L, 458 VFO,
and a lot of the scopes and slicers. Would it be wise to bring this thing up
with a variac?? My line voltage here I about 121 and I probably need to
keep the supply down to 115 to 117 for initial testing but am wondering if
it would be prudent to bring it up slow. I have worked on a fair amount of
boat anchor gear and usually just go for it. Only piece that showed that to
be ill advised was the 1st 10A I worked on and it smoked a power supply
resistor because of a shorted filter cap. Any good words of wisdom would be
welcome.
BTW this one has the lumpy-feeling VFO and so when I find if it's working or
not I will be removing the VFO for a rebuild and or cleaning.
