[Central-Electronics] 20A

Paul,

The output of the 20A always varies band to band. The best two bands are 80M and 20M where the 9 Mhz is beat with the 5-5.6 Mhz BFO where the sum is 20M, and difference is 80M. The 40m band is real bad since grid drive suffers since the VFO output gets tripled.

With todays line voltage, on 80M, I've seen a 20A put out 20 watts carrier at full saturation. The 6AG7's are spit boiling hot too. Not good to run there long. Also, linearity is poor above 15 watts or so since the finals are beginning to be a limiter.

Bypass the balanced modulator, and use an 80m or 40m crystal. You will be surprised how much power it puts out. Good for CW that way, but not phone (unless the XTAL frequency is shifted to beat with 9 mhz).

Did a 20A ever put out 20w carrier or does the 20 refer to pep ssb?
