Right on Jon!
I have been around the bend several times on this subject with Jim - WD5JKO,
and few others, and it always seems to lead back to using brand new 1N34s,
which are readily available. About the only alternate that I'd personally
suggest is the 1N270. Characteristics are basically the same as a 1N34, but
they have a higher PIV and can handle a lot more forward current.

When I was driving myself nuts trying to improve opposite sideband
suppression, I replaced the diodes with carefully matched Shottkey diodes.
It made no difference. Matched MOD CAPs, of course, made a huge difference.

I replace all 3 in that module or just D-203. There are no signs of
corrosion at the battery holders so I may stay with batteries in the D-201
D-202 circuit.
