[Central-Electronics] CE-20A Power level

Ron,
What you are seeing is typical on 80m/20M. It gets a little harder on 160 where the VFO doubles, and even harder again on 40M where the VFO triples. If the AC mains line voltage in your home was about 115 vac, then I'd expect no more that 15 watts. With 125 VAC we get more power, and a lot more heat inside the cabinet. We even push the limits of the 450 V electrolytics in the power supply during that turn on surge, and the filaments creep upward towards 7 Volts.
The power is self limiting in the 20A once we have the onset of grid 1 current to the 6AG7's. The high impedance bias supply shifts more negative when the drive is high, and that limits the power. Also when you drive it hard to grid current the 9 Mhz crystal pulls a bit (maybe 50 hz). So don't spot frequency at full drive. :-)

With careful tuning & peaking the BC-458/CE-20A show a smidgeon under 20
watts out CW key down. Does that sound about right?
