To the CE List:

Wes Schum celebrated his 90th birthday this past December 7th. I just
returned from visiting him and can report he is in great spirits and is quite
spry. He walks fine yet his hearing has diminished some. Although he and
his wife, Marge, now reside in assisted living, the family maintains a
24-acre farm. While visiting, we had a bit of a brainstorm (solar flares??)
and thought that CE collectors and those who are interested in the history of
single sideband might enjoy meeting Wes. He is probably one of the last
few remaining who have direct ties to those early development days of amateur
single sideband.

So, we are floating this idea to the list in the hopes of seeing if there
is any interest. The date we have tentatively selected is June 16th
(Saturday). The location would be at the Schum property in Jonesboro, Tennessee.
There is more than ample room for tailgating and I'm sure Wes would enjoy
seeing the old boatanchors en masse.

Wes' daughter, Diane Vogt and her husband John, operate a dual bed and
breakfast on-site and there is ample room for tech sessions and yarn spinnin'.
This would be a great time for those who have restored CE radios to share
their experiences. Of course, Wes would be available to meet and discuss
CE's early days. As for accommodations, there are plenty of nearby hotels
(Diane's B&B) and we could arrange for onsite food services.

So, if any of you are interested, please contact us via
_nick.tusa at ce-multiphase.com_ (mailto:nick.tusa at ce-multiphase.com) or by telephone at
504-400-8873. We need to know by Feb 15th so appropriate plans can be made if
there is sufficient interest.
