[Central-Electronics] 20-A SSB Question

Jim, you are correct and it helps to read the manual closer to see that on
160 that I should be in the SB2 position. After I sent the email the other
evening I had about a 30 minute QSO with a station in Pedro Bay, Alaska with
me in Anchorage (194 miles distance) after 12:00 am which also gave me
really good audio reports as always with the CE gear. He was running 1300
watts into a rhombic while I was loading my 80 meter dipole up on 160 at
about 12 watts. 160 was the quietest I have heard it in a long time.
In fact we were on 1850 and there was a dx pedition from Christmas Island
down at 1845
I was able to hear.

Subject: Re: [Central-Electronics] 20-A SSB Question

Tom,

So thinking about this some more while shampooing the rugs (honey do
project!), I plugged a 7130 40m crystal into my 20A. Then moved switch
from VFO to Crystal. So on 160m, I get a nice signal on 1870 Khz where
SB1 is LSB! So you cannot say SB1 or SB2 is LSB for a given band. Goes
back to the math. Here we have 9 - 7.130 = 1.870. :-)

PS If you have a collection of 40m crystals, these can be handy for
working 160m with a 20A. You might get a little more power from the 20A
too with a crystal if the VFO output was a bit low ..
