Bob,
I have four 600Ls, one of which is serial number 1 (actually 560001 if I remember correctly). Since it's the first I think it's safe to assume the only square cornered version would have been a prototype or an artist's rendition. This particular amplifier also has the very rare, ganged-to-the-bandswitch, coax switch option. I think it's safe to assume that, being the first, it probably initially belonged to a CE employee. I bought it for $150 in Springfield Mo at a tobacco shop that also sold consigned ham gear. Such a deal.

Subject: [Central-Electronics] 600L variants
Now that I've got my 10A and 600L combo perking along nicely, I've
become curious about something. It looks like the 600L was first
introduced by means of full page ads in early issues of QST for 1955
But the picture in the June ad shows a cabinet with square corners just
like the CE exciters, only larger. Yet every 600L I've seen has the
round-corner cabinet like the 100V, which wouldn't come out for another
3 years. So I assume that the 600L was made with both cabinet styles,
but wonder if anyone can confirm this?
More interestingly, a very different-looking 600L was actually announced
several months earlier, with the first ad appearing in the March 1955
issue. While the technical description is identical, the front panel
layout was different and the cabinet size was three inches narrower at
14 5/8" wide. My guess is that this narrower version was never
actually produced, except perhaps for a few prototypes.
