Hi to the List--first time posting here. I know what you mean by the inept
shippers. I received a Gonset GSB 201 shipped the same way and it took $250
to repair the $350 pristine amp to what it was before shipping. The reason
for the response however is that I have a P&H LA-400C that is in pristine
shape and is currently paired with my CE20A. I believe if memory serves me
that your 400B has the square front panel and is in a cabinet that is very
similar if not the same as the CE 10a,b and 20a cabinets. If that is the
case then I have a NEW painted, original color, front panet that is not
printed on or punched. If you are interested let me know. It came with a
brand new, in the box 20a cabinet that I am going to use. I may have another
cabinet available also. The LA-400C may also be available. You can see a
picture of it on my call at QRZ.com.

Subject: [Central-Electronics] Need advise: P&H LA-400B damage
Hello to all:
I recently received the P&H amplifier at the Post Office. You can guess the
rest but what happened was that the idiots who packed the unit (non-hams, of
course) used that sponge material found in old mattresses to pack the unit.
I found the unit with a hole ripped in the box. The front panel was dented
and creased in the middle. Part of the cabinet was partly crumpled. A
toggle switch was broken. The transformer and choke look like they are about
to wrench off of their mounting tabs. I haven't inspected the rest of the
unit but everything else appears to be intact.
Here's my question: this is a rare amplifier and one doesn't see many of
these units around today. Changes of stepping across one is getting harder
every day. I can repair it, but it may take me at least $200 plus to repair
the unit and put everything back into shape. The negative is that every
time I look at this thing, I get a sickening feeling and get angry at the
negligent treatment this poor old unit received. Maybe I take this a little
to personal but boatanchors are a passion of mine. I was looking forward to
teaming this old gal up with a CE 20A that I have coming (luckily from an
experienced BA ham), but that won't be for any time soon. Looking for your
thoughts and advice, and perhaps a little peace.
Cal, N6KYR/4
