Hello List
Just wanted to drop you a note to tell you that I replaced my 5U4 with the sarkes Tarzian S-5991 ss rectifier in my 100V. I did some tests.
At 115vac input the 5U4 tube produced about 370vdc and on fsk mark on 3.587 MHz I adjusted to 50W output. This made an input current (from the wall) of 4.54 amps key down.
When I replaced with the SS replacement, the voltage rose to 395vdc and the output rose to 75W!!! I was shocked to think such a big difference in output power would occur! Keep in mind, i have yet to replace the HV rectifiers that power the 6550s. Once I replace the HV rectifiers, I wonder if the output would rise even more? I should also note that this extra output corresponded to an input current of 5.16 amps (fwiw).
This weekend I hope to lash up some homebrew replacements of the 6AU4's and see the results.
Do I have any reason to worry about this extra power output? In other words, am I ok as long as I don't exceed the ratings of the finals (100W?) or should I lower my output power from 75W (with ss replacements) back to 50W?
regards!
Eugene
