Jon: you'll never be sorry about any efforts you expend on restoring a CE SSB adapter. With all due respect to the highly regarded TMC and Hammarlund adapters, the CE produces extremely clean sounding audio. The only variable is the AGC inthe receiver of your choice.

The TMC, Hammarlund, and a few others have their own AGC's built in, and that's the only real difference.
With a bit of research, any AGC can be improved for SSB, taking that off the table.

Good luck,
George - W1LSB

Maybe these big resistors are 1/2 watt just big for their size.
They have held up well -- very little drift.

The tool I'm using to measure leakage is a Heathkit capacitor
tester. It doesn't give me anything numerical to go on, just the
action of a magic eye. For good caps it winks. For leaky caps it
opens its eye slowly. On really leaky caps it doesn't open its eye
at all.

To measure capacitor values and precision resistor values I'm using a
little handheld LCR tester, the PEAK LCR40.

To measure really bad soldering I'm using my own, non-magical eye.

Jon
