Colin,

I recall as a teenager when I found an old selenium rectified battery
charger in a swamp. I took it home, hosed it off, and it dried out for a
year or so until I decided to try it since I had a dead car battery. That
thing worked too, for a while. As things warmed up, the smell of swamp (like
wet gym socks after a marathon) emerged, and that was the good part. Soon a
yellowish smoke emerged from them selenium rectifiers, and that stench about
killed me!

The battery charger went into the dumpster...

I am not too worried about the selenium rectifier in the BC-458, but you
make a good point. If my 3000mfd filter capacitor had shorted out instead of
dried out, then I'd have more selenium smoke in my face. ;-)

Regards,
Jim
