I'm sure that this thread will go on for days and take
many detours, so allow me to throw in my $0.02 while
people are still following along.
Since there was no CE-produced "match" for the 100V, I
would ask what a ham might have bought in 1959 to use
with his new rig. BTW, everything I say here is based
on the assumption that our 100V buyer had a boatload
of money, so I think we can rule out the SX-99 and
like receivers :-).
Now if this guy had already been into SSB, he might
possibly have had a 75A-4, which would probably have
served him very well and he would most likely have
kept it. CE apparently designed the dial escutcheon
to emulate the Collins design.
Now if the guy was going into SSB for the first time
and he didn't already have a high-end SSB receiver,
what would he have bought? Well, if he was going to
buy new, would the 75A-4 have still been available?
Possibly (I don't know when Collins ended 'A-4
production), but since the S-Line was introduced
around the time that 100Vs were actually available I
wonder if our big-bux ham would have shelled out for
the "latest and greatest" of the available SSB
receivers, the 75S-1? If he was going to buy used
because he broke the bank with the 100V, then the
75A-4 would probably have been his first choice.
Maybe they were available at fire sale prices both new
and used, with the advent of the new S-Line. Anybody
around from back then who remembers?
Anyway, I'm cutting a deal for a 75A-4 to go with my
100V. If nothing else, they'll look great together.
73,
Jim
