I got the ball reducer to work, not perfectly, but good enough to move
on to bigger problems. I did not change the grease. I'm using the
Radio Shack Lube Gel which, I'm told, is a Teflon grease. I did fool
around quite a bit with the screws that set the tension on the ball
reducer bearings.
I assembled the gaskets between the ball reducer assembly and the front
panel spring assembly with the very thin one next to the knob and the
thicker one closer to the front panel. Mine seem to be lubricated with
graphite, so I put a tiny bit more graphite on gaskets.
Thanks again to Joe, Colin, & Bob
Jon, K6JEK
