Hi John,
Seems to be pretty good. Had a real time to begin with, a good
troubleshooters delight. It was far out of alignment and full of
cold/loose solder joints. Even now I'm still not sure I have them all
found. The wire to the grid of the 6AG7 didn't have any solder on it at
all, it was just stuck thru the tube socket terminal and left wiggling
around. It's a wonder it worked at all. Clearly a kit-built project by
someone. The 160 coil set I made up works fine, gotta go thru my crystal
bank and see if I can find some more crystals to move around 160. I
notice I seem to get a little distortion as I advance the mic gain, even
thought it looks clean on the scope. If I keep the power out down to
around 3 watts on audio peaks it is ok. Any above that and I get reports
of minor distortion. The Valiant seems to like the 3 watts anyway so no
need to drive it any more than that, but I'd like to solve the
distortion problem eventually for barefoot operation. I get about 8
watts CW out.
