Hello fellow CE lovers -
Most of the registries I have seen (for antique motorcycles) are anonymous
for security reasons. With the present public listing, a thief could rent a
van during Dayton week, drive around to everybody's home QTH, and really
clean up on 200Vs. Or the estate sharks will be at your wife's door as soon
as your call is listed as a Silent Key. (There are guys making a living at
this.)
To me the real reason for the registry is to look at serial number
sequences, available features, change break-in points, etc. It might be nice
to know if someone in your town or state has a similar rig also. Or if
someone is willing to be a technical resource for the group. The need for an
owner's name is not all that relevant in my opinion.
On the Matchless motorcycle list, for example, if someone desires to contact
a specific owner (whose identity is kept confidential), the list keeper
(registrar) contacts the owner and has him/her contact the person with the
query. When the model # / serial # info is initially solicited by the
registrar, the owner has the option to remain anonymous. There are also
columns in the registry specifying whether the owner is willing to help with
technical info, photos, etc.
I would be willing to be the keeper of a 100V list or help out Bill if he
needs it, if there is a want for a combined list. I think the security issue
should at least be kicked around a bit. (Flame suit on!)
