Dear Friends in CCARC,
Sharon found a small ad in the Maryland Independent that reads HAM
RADIO & HAM RADIO TOWER EQUIP. Please call (301) 475-1678. I phoned the
gentleman. His name is John (Al) Barolet (as in Chevrolet). Al is an 89
year old, young spirited guy with admirable vitality. His house is sold
and they settle in two weeks. Thus, it all must go. He wants cash only
(or cashier's check). I found this out after selecting and negotiating
several items. Spontaneity and cash did not mesh that late in the week.
Thus, I gracefully stood down because I don't usually carry that much
cash. Rather than hold up the sales until I get to my Credit Union next
week, I told him I would let all of our CCARC folks know of his wares and
hope for satisfaction all around. Al's call is KJ3E, and he was our
Section Manager from 1985 to 1988. He has some great stories.
Anyhow, he has the following:
Tower - Rohn 55' erect. It is a guyed tower, in poured concrete base.
First section can be cut and still net 50' to the base of an antenna. It
is very well guyed. He will take $100, as long as the buyer gets it out
of there soon. With about 5 workers and a gin pole, it can be done in an
afternoon. Conc base and conc guy anchors may stay. From what we saw, it
is in great shape..no dents, discoloration, rust, etc.
Several tuners One I wanted was identical to my Dentron Super Tuner 1k.
Several power supplies
Icom
SCOUT mobile 40m
2 MFJ TNCs
Coax
Mobile antennas and a couple Yagis - 2m
MFJ antenna switches
2m amplifiers (5 in 40 out and 20 in 75 out, I believe)
MFJ swr/power meter
MFJ artificial ground
books
two dual band verticals on house (house is single story rambler)
and so on.
Anybody interested, please call Al on (301) 475-1678. He is always tied
up at about noon everyday for a few hours as he visits his wife in
nursing home. He has an answering machine.
Look up KJ3E on QRZ. Quite in interesting guy. I hope that I am as
mobile and articulate at his age. As we were going through stuff and
adding it up, I was writing down the numbers and he kept a mental tally
over that entire time. He had the totals at the tip of his tongue. Very
impressive. He is a heavy CW operator that has in interesting history.
He also walked the Appalachian Trail after retirement in 1972.
As noted, this stuff has to go by mid November 2005. He will be glad to
hear from anyone. Maybe someone can offer a deal for the lot.
Anyhow, even though I could not walk away with any treasures, I was
pleased to meet Al. Don't forget CASH. (I don't blame him).
