Subject: [amsat-dc] FYI: Skywarn Class in March
Info and RSVP at http://www.patkilroy.com/skywarnRSVP/
THE GODDARD AMATEUR RADIO CLUB, INC. (GARC) is sponsoring a Skywarn
BASICS I class soon for its members, for members of neighboring
Amateur Radio clubs and AMSAT members, as well as employees of NASA
Goddard and its contractor companies, and the general public.
With the recent increase in local demand, likely due to the LaPlata
tornado, Pentagon tragedy on September 11, and the College Park
tornado, I expect to see a large turn out.
Many attending the Skywarn training will NOT be radio operators.
This will give us the opportunity to offer a *public demonstration*
of Amateur Radio in action. Would anyone like to plan a satellite
demo, even if it were just a slick tracking program on laptop?
A pitch for emergency communication preparedness and ARES can be
made too. I wonder if amateur satellites are under-represented in
this area.
The class will be held on Wednesday evening, March 19, 2003, at the
Visitor Center auditorium at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
in Greenbelt, Maryland. Starting time is 6:30 P.M. *PROMPTLY*,
immediately following the regular GARC monthly meeting (which will
be held in the Gallery at the VC, next to the auditorium). The
training session is one evening, three hours long.
Class enrollment is limited to the first 60 individuals to RSVP
by e-mail.
An e-mail RSVP for pre-registration is required for this class, so
please obtain your confirmation soon. Include your contact
telephone number in your RSVP message.
Go to http://www.patkilroy.com/skywarnRSVP/ to RSVP or just send
me an e-mail with your info.
Skywarn Basics I. You won't want to miss it!
Sincerely,
Pat N8PK
