The following members were able to attend the February 2002 ARES/RACES =
Team Meeting.

Jim W3JTD
Bill KE3RE
Lee N3YWZ
Tom W3TOM
Debbie KA3VNF
Mike KA3GRW

The agenda included discussions of the County Emergency Operations Plan =
(EOP) and the new Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Draft Appendix to =
that plan. Our responsibilities as outlined in the EOP was discussed. We =
discussed changing the time of the monthly ARES/RACES Team Meeting from =
7:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This would allow us to devote a full hour to =
ARES/RACES activities, before breaking at 8:00 p.m. to participate in =
the CCARC weekly club net. I for one desire to participate in the CCARC =
weekly net. This would give us time to do both effectively. So, unless =
anyone has trouble attending the meeting 30 minutes earlier, we will =
start the ARES/RACES Team Meeting on March 26, 2002 at 7:00 p.m.

The ARRL has asked who might be interested in purchasing ARES jackets, =
windbreakers or vests similar to those used by the Red Cross. Of course =
they would be appropriately embroidered or stitched with the ARES and =
Amateur Radio Lettering. We discussed this also and I am looking for =
those who would be interested in this clothing. I was asked by the SEC =
to consolidate the interest and up channel the information. My intent is =
to have a discussion with Mr. McGuire to fund these items. Please email =
me with your interest in this by March 10, 2002. Many of you may have =
already seen an email from the League on this. A funding request has =
been submitted to Mr. McGuire for the purchase of equipment to be =
installed in La Plata.=20

Before firming dates for another National Traffic System (NTS) Training =
Class , I would like all that are interested to consider these dates and =
get back with me by email or phone. The class would be one day, =
probably Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. These are the dates:

March 23, April 6 & 20, May 4, June 15 & 29, 2002

The sooner the better so we don't encroach on the summer vacation =
periods. Please let me know by March 15, 2002 so I can have time to set =
it up with our SEC Mike Carr WA1QAA. Once we get a good bunch of trained =
folks in the bucket, we can really move on to practicing our refreshed =
skills. This will prepare us for the mini drills and the SET in October =
2002.

With training in mind, it is time to take note of those needed SKYWARN =
training classes again. Please let me know what training you have =
attended and what interests you have in upcoming training. The NWS has =
been very flexible in the past to our requests for training delivery in =
Southern Maryland. They have always been very supportive of Southern =
Maryland SKYWARN Programs and we greatly appreciate it. I know many of =
you have shown interest in being trained as SKYWARN net controllers. =
Send that information to me and I will send those requests to the =
National Weather Service.

73,

Mike KA3GRW
