Greetings Fellow Amateur Radio Operators and Club Members,
I received a telephone call from the Cobb Island Days'
coordinator, Ms. Stephanie Potts. This was her follow-up call to that
received two weeks ago. There were some concerns on her part about the
electrical power point matter, and I believe I got that cleared up in her
mind. As she was not a coordinator in prior years, she was unsure of
that detail. I assured her that we must be located in the same spot as
before because of our definite need for supplied electrical power. I
thought this was already confirmed, however, she will work it out for us.
At first, she thought we could work with a generator, but I put that to
rest when I brought up the matters of security, safety, and public
nuisance (noise). She agreed. I did, however, stress to her that we are
always "at-the-ready" for either a genuine emergency or emergency
exercise, complete with various forms of emergency power.
Thursday and Friday are "Carnival" days, which begin at 5pm and
go on to 9pm on Thursday and 11pm on Friday. Our days of participation
are the following Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2, 2002. The day's
activities will be listed in the 'yet-to-be-developed' program or flyer.
The weekend days will include the usual fare, and this year include the
Fireman's Parade and the Boat Parade. The Flick's allegiance is obvious,
as we would most likely be a participant in the Boat Parade, albeit
Maritime Mobile. hihi
I anticipate setups to occur Saturday morning at about 7:30am (I
will refine these details once this level of detail is provided from the
Committee). At the end of the day, we will breakdown the gear and take
it home. I don't mind taking sensitive gear in my station wagon and
parking in my secured garage, if that is preferred. I hope to be able to
leave canopies and antennas in place, but will get a better feel from the
Committee as days go on. As Art Audley (AA3RT) stated at our recent
Membership Meeting, Cobb Island Day Weekend is always an opportune time
to rehearse for Field Day. Let us all take advantage and have some fun
along the way.
During our last Membership Meeting, our Club President provided,
as a handout, a very complete 'shopping list' of items required for our
favorite activity, Field Day. This same list is a terrific guide for
developing the same type of listing for other special event stations.
Thus, rather than reinvent the wheel, here are some suggested items
required for our 2-day participation at Cobb Island Days 2002
Canopies, such as the 8' x 8' and 10' x 10' structures provided by both
Mike Tackish and Bill Jameson in previous events. Suggest two total. (do
not consider the Club tent, as it is too large for this event)
Club Banner to be provided by Flick.
One HF Rig, power supply, tuner, mic and key. May be interesting to
rehearse our Field Day plans with QRP CW as well.
HF antenna. Flick will supply R-7 Cushcraft vertical. If QRP rig used,
may need to run stealth wire.
One dual band rig, mic and power supply.
Dual Band Antenna. Flick will supply dual band ground plane on mast.
Coax for all antenna systems
Headphones just in case. Flick will bring one set.
Antenna Analyzer for set up.
Tables, at least two folding tables, 6'. three is better.
Chairs.
Log Book, pads,pencils, etc.
Laptop for PSK31 possibly? Interface, digipan or equal, etc.
Remote speakers to draw the crowd
Lamps/Lights/bug candles/flashlights
Power strips and extension cords.
Hand tools,various connectors,soldering tools,VOM
There is the listing for starters. This will be refined as the
days move on, and the next report will include a listing of who has
agreed to provide what, and a listing of participants. Don't forget the
essentials like coolers and drinking water, paper products, etc. Last
year, a wonderful breakfast feast was provided by Tom and Deb. If we all
ask nicely, maybe we can work out that detail again with some others
agreeing to provide staples. The Flicks will bring the coffee pot and
accoutrements.
Contact me either via [email protected], or tele (301) 259-0110.
Many thanks to all. Looking forward to a great year with CCARC.
