Message-ID: 73, Bob N3PPH I will have the MAIPN backbone available at the Berryville HamFest. There will be several MESH nodes at the off ramp as well. Access to the backbone management software, camera system and services are available on the web. While our longest link of 55 miles is between Red Lion Pennsylvania and Frederick Maryland, on two mountain tops with towers on both ends, the Berryville link is special. What makes the Berryville link special is that it covers a distance of 30 mile between temporary, ad-hoc and completely portable masts. This demonstration is an example of what can be accomplished with minimal Line-of-site while still providing high data rates. A screen capture of the backbone management software is attached. We have VoIP phones and cameras at several large backbone locations, but have set up two temporary cameras for the Berryville link. You can view these in your web browser at: http://173.166.180.188:7080/live-view id: video at maipn.com pw: guest Keith From eric at christensenplace.us Sat Aug 15 23:35:50 2015 From: eric at christensenplace.us (Eric Christensen) Date: Sat, 15 Aug 2015 23:35:50 -0400 Subject: [CALV-MESH] Lets build a LAN Message-ID: <13874114.LHQMquid5W@eric> I'm re-energized after visiting Montgomery County, today, and seeing what they're working on with regards to building a data network using 5 GHz Ubiquiti gear. Here's my idea: Lets try to gain access to one (or more) of the water towers in the Chesapeake Beach/North Beach area and build a small LAN. If coverage seems decent we can take the next step and maybe add services at the city hall buildings and maybe the fire department as well as any hams that would like the service at their house. We can provide (for testing at this point) XMPP, email, and/or some other form of communication between facilities. XMPP would probably be the best, though. I may go ahead and pick up a couple of systems to test with. I'd like to figure out the correct combination of battery capacity and charge (solar?) capacity to keep a system up and functioning. Is anyone else interested in testing some gear? 73, Eric WG3K From eric at christensenplace.us Mon Aug 17 11:01:49 2015 From: eric at christensenplace.us (Eric Christensen) Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2015 11:01:49 -0400 Subject: [CALV-MESH] Experimenting with IP links across the Bay Message-ID: <20571171.h3ZWCqHYtv@eric> I've found a willing victim... errr... volunteer to serve as a east-coast station across the Bay from here. We're going to try to stand up a 9 mile 5 GHz (or 3 GHz) link across the Bay. This could fold in well with the idea to build a LAN in the Twin Beaches area (Chesapeake Beach and North Beach). I need to check with a second station to see if he is interested in participating as well. More to come. 73, Eric WG3K
