I had considered the possibility of what to do to do a temporary connection
for a dual crossband a few years ago. Whike not perfect my idea at the time
was to use two radios connected with a HT controller. It was conceived when
I was hoping to be more "outdoor active" and before I got HTs capable of a
crossband repeater.
I'm mid-county and can reach both repeaters without an external antenna. I
also have two Leixen UV-25D 20 watt radios and two HYS "NOTE" clones which
are 25 watt UHF only (based on my tests a few years ago). The idea was to
connect the two with the controller, but each would have some power
limitations in terms of time before recharge. While not optimum such might
have some capabilities for a short term EmComm use to artificially link the
repeaters.
There are a couple of technical issues to consider using external antennas
such as the N9TAX to assure the radios don't overload each other's speakers.
Both the Leixen and NOTE have been described as mobiles in an HT format by
Miklor dot com.
