Kim K3OCM and I operated at the Dunkirk Park & Ride lot off Towne Center
Blvd. using Xiegu X6100 running 10w with a 71' wire with an LDG 9:1 unun,
and 25' of RG8X with an RF choke at the radio end of the feedline. Wire
height was approx. 7.5'. The internal matching unit was able to tune on all
frequencies the group tried.
We were under one of the county's comm towers and had numerous light poles
surrounding us and assume that be the cause of the S7-9 noise floor we
experienced.
On 40m we were able to hear and make contact with KB3WFV and only hear N3AE.
On 80m we were able to hear and make contact with KB3WFV and N1JMC and only
hear N3AE and AC3KX who were both just above the noise floor.
For any future NVIS exercises, I would like to try adding some elevation to
the antenna to see if it would improve local reception.
Big thanks to all who participated. I believe getting out and putting ideas
and thoughts/theories into practice is a great way to learn and strengthen
teamwork and camaraderie.
