[CALV-AUXCOMM] [K3CAL] Auxcomm 8/21

As I mentioned at the meeting I have lots of ham radios, as I look for new
features and more power. I occassionally discuss my impressions of them on
my Facebook page and while I don't recommend any, I do discuss issues I
see. But that's rare *and this isn't a promotion of any product).

I noticed a small interest in the Quansheng TK-11(8) when I discussed it.
Although a quadband for transmit has a wide receive across HF, VHF and UHF.

It can only tx in FM mode which is limiting and cannot receive SSB at
6-meters and above. As such it's best for monitoring HF. It also has a
spectrum analyzer which is easy to use.

There are 2 versions, the difference being the T-antenna size.
Unfortunately, the CPS programming is not user friendly and it's not yet
supported by Chirp or RT Systems. Therefore, it is best as a monitor.
Reviews state it also will tx/rx CB bands. Ten meters requires a separate
optional antenna.

I'm also going to be experimenting with another "Shack in a box" HT radio
which has two donut reostat antennas for the HF bands (a RadTel), but only
a dual band for transmit/receive. It had some good reviews for spectral
purity. I'm not sure if it has a spectrum analyzer, but a sister radio by
the same manufacturer does. Recently RT Systems discontinued programming
support for the RadTel radios as some now have Bluetooth programming and
the firmware also changes frequently within models.
