Tried both Packet and VARA FM on 10 Watts and was unable to connect. I will this evening (Wed) with 50W from the base station and let you know my results..

Andy, KC3WRX, and I have been working towards installation of a Winlink gateway here in Calvert County.  We currently have the gear temprorarily assembled at my QTH, using a Diamond X300 antenna at 75 ft running 25w.  The final resting place will be the hospital roof in Prince Frederick.

The gateway can handle both 1200 bps Packet Winlink sessions and VARA FM sessions (both VARA FM narrow and wide).

If you have the time and interest, try sending a message or two via the gateway.  My suggestion is to use your own email address as the destination, that way you can verify success by opening your email.

The gateway will be up 24/7 until Thursday morning, then going down for some mods.  Should be back up Sunday evening, 4/13

We may experiment with the gateway during our Wednesday (5pm) digital modes practice net (146.985 repeater for coordination).
