Hey, good morning all. Thanks to all who came out in support of the Auxcomm
group last night. Was a good turn out. Had a few folks in Dayton for this
year's festivities, but a good turn out none the less.
Bill N3XMZ, Andy KC3WRX, Daire AC3KX, Erik KC3QQD, Wade KB3VLE, Jon KQ5V,
Bob N3PPH, Dick W3RBR, Charlie AB3LE, Mike N1JMZ, and Brian KB3WFV. Don't
think I'm missing anyone. If I am, fire back at me and I'll give you a shout
out. As always, thanks go to Calvert County Emergency Management for the use
of the EOC and Video system. Being there will be great for training
purposes.
Couple quick things:
Bill. thanks for updating us about what's happening on the County side of
things. The upcoming exercise would be a good chance to practice our skills
and show the powers-to-be that we're relevant in the big picture. I think we
should take advantage of it.
Appreciate everyone taking the time to update the group roster and fill some
spots on the hurricane plan. Both are things we try to do annually, not only
to keep info current, but to ensure we don't forget our newer folks. Once
both are finalized, the hurricane plan will be posted on the website/page
and the roster will be sent out. I've attached the ARES Form FSD98 in a
fillable PDF version. If you've already submitted one and no information has
changed, cool! If you've never done one, please take a few moments to do so.
You can forward it to me or Shawn for record keeping. Also for the newer
folks, I attached a copy of the ARES Task Book which is a progressive
training plan for operators coming into the field of emergency
communications. No! We don't beat it in to you but there's a lot of good
learning opportunities in it. I see no reason we can't incorporate some of
the items in it into our routine. Much of it fits into "everyday ham radio"
as well.
A lot of good ideas were brought up about things that will benefit the group
and Ecomm in Calvert. I will say it again. If you have an idea, please take
the lead on it. We don't want to become the group where a couple people do
it all. If it's something new to you and you don't know where to start, no
prob! Lots of talent within the group for advice. Everyone has something to
contribute, and everyone can learn from it. Participation is the key. I
spoke with Mike after the meeting and he is willing to take the lead on
Winlink training(I know I need more of that). He's gonna check his schedule
and get back to me with a date to get it going so look for that in the near
future. It will also be interesting to see how Jon's home weather station
progresses. I think he has a neat idea that will also showcase the ability
to create when faced with need. Something else radio amateurs have taken
pride in.
I realize the radio install there is not complete but hopefully you got a
little insight as to how things will be set up. Once complete, we'll be able
have a more in-depth overview and start getting folks trained and up to
speed on operating there. It really is a well-designed system that gives us
a lot of versatility.
Finally:
June 19th will be our next meeting. I don't believe an agenda has been set
so we're open to ideas. Also, don't forget Field Day is coming up(June 22nd
and 23rd). It started out as an opportunity for hams to test their emergency
communication skills so it fits in to the realm of Auxcomm. Always need help
with setting up and coordinating. Dave W3PQS will be sending out an email
next week with more about that so keep an eye out. If you've never done
Field Day, it's an experience.
With that, I will shut up. Thanks for your time and effort.
Andy, A/EC
KC3WRX
