[CALV-AUXCOMM] Digital Mode Practice

For the folks on the "to" line, thanks for participating in our digital mode practice Wednesday evening at the Harriet Brown Community Center.  The walk-away lesson learned is that effective use of digital modes requires frequent practice, practice and practice.  The skill can evaporate quickly if not used frequently.   Portable gear that isn't used frequently can result in last minute configuration problems (my gear included).
 
In the spirit of having frequent practice, I wanted to alert you to a couple of opportunities.  One is the local MDC ARES monthly Winlink check-in exercise.  It's held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month and is pretty simple...just send a check-in message containing your callsign, First-name, City or Town, County, State, and Session Type. For example:  KD3JA, James, Lanham, Prince George's, MD, Vara HF.

For the more ambitious, there's a monthly EMCOMM challenge that a window of a couple of days to complete.  See the attached announcement for the March 5-11, 2024 challenge.  Ignore the 2023 typo.  The instructions include directions on how to be put on distrobution for these exercise announcements.   If you're seriously interested in participating in the Mar 5-11 exercise, send me an email and I'll forward any follow-up instructions I've received.
