$69 for full speed program otherwise limited to 175bps. I'd like to try this out but not sure I can get it up and running by time of the exercise.

All,
See Steve's invite below. For most of us this is an opportunity to practice Winlink Packet. VARA is a relatively new sound card based modem (think SignaLink hooked to your VHF/UHF transceiver and VARA software on your PC). Google it for more details. It's much faster than standard packet and more like PACTOR III or IV. I am not set up for it yet myself. OBTW...a warning...VARA software isn't free.
The exercise, unfortunately, is the same day and time as the monthly CARA meeting (I'm guessing Zoom again) but if you'd like to participate in the exercise, let Steve, KC2DSO know and me as well.
There's a follow-up email from Steve that I'll forward separately.

> Hello Everyone,

> I am planning and will be running a drill on 7/2 for PG-ARES. This will be a Packet/VARA (HF & FM) drill.
>
> Below is the basic data as of yet which I just sent to our group. If any of your members want to participate simply have them send me an email to this address. I need to know inside of 5 days so I can start making assignments. If any of the MONT or HOWA folks want to play I will toss up another VFM node on a beam and point it west. Any questions let me know.

> PG-ARES will be holding a drill on July 2, 2020. This drill will be based upon testing the VARA FM infrastructure (P2P and nodes) inside the county. Packet can and will also be used so if you don't have VARA FM don't worry about it. Dust off your TNC and jump online with us for some fun.We will also be trying the new Vara HF 4.0 software as well so be sure to upgrade your EmComm gear.
>
> The drill will start at 1900 hours and should be done by ~2030. I am working on a plan which I should have a draft out within a few days.
>
> The more the merrier so if you want to participate please RSVP to this thread. In your RSVP please advise what mode(s) you can run so I can make assignments. I need to know:
>
> 1200 Packet
> 9600 Packet (UHF)
> Vara FM (wideband or narrowband)
> Can you hit any of the VFM Nodes? (KC3DSO-10 (wideband node), KA3POX-10 or WB3KAS)
>
> Some of the exercise will be figuring out who you can hit P2P in different modes. There will be injects from me to the group, some individuals, etc. but they won't be anything we have not done. We will be addressing some of the items mentioned in the 5/30 ARC AAR's.Like what we did on 5/30 we will be using NCS not only for voice but also for data P2P and perhaps node traffic as well.
>
> Injects most likely will include Winlink form completing such as the Winlink Check In Form, ICS-213 to a station and they will be required to use the 213's reply feature, Winlink GPS Position Report, sending a photo, etc.
>
> So drop me a note and let me know if you want to participate. Thanks for all you do for PG-ARES.
