[CALV-AUXCOMM] Calvert AUXCOMM - NEED YOUR REPLY

Shawn, all,

I would like to remain on the active list if I can, I would like to operate from home if possible.

My certifications should put me on the level 2 for RACES, but no ARRL EC-001 training.

I do not wish to deploy outside Calvert County for emergency.

I would consider short deployment for exercises...PG, AA, Charles.

I would consider taking ARRL courses online, if I can find the time and re-join, most likely in November during my downtime / post op.

Would consider taking the additional courses for level 3, if time allows. Already have IS-300 & 400.

At this time I am only qualified for RACES operations as I am not a current member of ARRL.

I would like to try some fl-digi, but will have to brush up on it again.
I may have to install an additional hard drive in computer, as found out today C drive is full. (Couldn't upload updates for windows 7 this morning). So I will be moving stuff around.

Thanks for your continuing efforts to keep this group going.

Sent from my iPad,
Best Regards,
Jim Tetlow

ACTIVE means your are willing and able to support emergency communications call-ups, including possibly deploying to shelters or other locations as required by the particular emergency.

INACTIVE members will remain AUXCOMM members and remain on this email reflector, but we'll know you are unable to support a call-up except, perhaps, for operations from your home QTH. If you are no longer interested in being an AUXCOMM member at all, I'd like to know that too. If I don't hear back from you at all by September 30th will be put on the INACTIVE list.

> Level 1 — This is the primary level for those who choose a non-leadership role as well as those new to Amateur Radio or emergency communications. This introductory training is conducted by the local ARES group to meet their needs and those of their served agency or partners. This training could be formal or informal, and would introduce the ARES participant to the fundamentals of emergency communications and provide instruction on how participants are to conduct themselves while serving in the field or otherwise activated. Participants may elect to remain at this level, or any level, based upon the extent of their desired ARES involvement. (bold font is my addition)

>
> Level 2 — To qualify for this level, participants shall have completed the following courses: ARRL’s EC-001 Introduction to Amateur Radio Emergency Communications (a no-cost program) and FEMA IS-100, IS-200, IS 700, and IS-800. Participants are also encouraged to take advantage of training opportunities available through partners to enhance their knowledge and skill set.

> Level 3 — This level of training prepares ARES participants to take on leadership positions such as EC, ADEC, DEC, ASEC, and SEC, and other designated positions in the ARES program. Participants are required to complete ARRL’s EC-016, Emergency Communications for Management, when available along with FEMA Professional Development Series of courses IS-120, IS-230, IS-240, IS-241, IS-242, IS-244, and IS-288 the Role of voluntary Organizations in Emergency Management. Participants also are encouraged to complete the FEMA courses IS-300, and IS-400 should they be available locally.

Also, if you look at our own AUXCOMM Emergency Operations Plan, we require Level 2 ICS courses to man the RACES position at the County EOC. Your humble EC is going to have to take a lot of training classes to certify as Level 3 and retain my current EC charter, so you're not alone.

> Arrival of fall means another Simulated Emergency Test, or SET, which is typically held in early October. Our Section Emergency Coordinator, Jim Montgomery, WB3KAS, recently contacted me regarding early planning by the Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) for an exercise "Ocean City Hurricane Evacuation." The MEMA exercise plan is independent of the SET but Jim was hoping to tie the two together, using the MEMA exercise as an opportunity for the MDC section SET scenerio. The MEMA plan, however, currently lacks much detail including even the date (guessing September or October) so it's very unlikely the MDC section SET will be tied to the MEMA exercise. But if you would like to be placed in a "ready list" to participate in this MEMA exercise when it does happen, please let me know. I assume it would mean driving over to Ocean City and the likely assignment would be keeping track of exercise participants boarding evacuation buses. The call-up could be on fairly short notice.

FLDIGI would be an alternative to Winlink and may have some advantages for our particular situation, including the ability to use our current voice repeaters to send/receive digital messages. Some introductory help can be found at:
