[CALV-AUXCOMM] Plans for a 10M Portable Test in May and SET this Fall

I'm in.  Can use a dipole or a screwdriver portable.  Have solar and genset, can travel.  This sounds like a worthwhile exercise and I'm interested in the fldigi part, too.  Is flmessage a part of this?

Subject: [CALV-AUXCOMM] Plans for a 10M Portable Test in May and SET this Fall

All,

At our meeting this week, we decided to again focus on testing more 10M simplex within the county.  We have done this in the past from our home QTH's.  I'll post the results of that test on our AUXCOMM web site.  The next step is looking at portable operations.

On May 15th (a Wednesday) we are going to test 10M simplex while operating portable within the county.  Some stations will be operating fixed base (e.g. Drum Point).

I'd like to get a list of stations that are willing to go portable on May 15th.  This of course means between now and then you will have to put together your portable 10M SSB station including some simple antenna like a dipole and some means of supporting the antenna.  I'd like the portable stations to run in the 50 watt to 100 watt range.  Power source is up to you but I would not count on commercial power.

Prior to May 15th, I'll determine the locations for the portable stations and send out a deployment schedule.  Plan to leave your home QTH at 0900.  Communications will be SSB simplex on 28.350 MHz +/- QRM.  The objective of the test will just be to document simplex coverage from the various locations and fixed base stations.

PLEASE RSVP with your willingness to play on May 15th, and if that will be portable (needed most of all) or fixed base from your QTH.

Looking ahead to the Simulated Emergency Test this fall, one suggestion for a scenario is locating a simulated dementia patient who has wondered off after a severe weather event but has an RF tracker on their person.  This essentially would be a coordinated group fox hunt.  Once again, we may leverage 10M simplex to simulate loss of infrastructure.  To add an additional layer of capability, we may (between now and then) attempt to all get FLDIGI up and running with our 10M fixed and portable gear.  Probably will use the MT63 mode which has robust forward error correction and can be monitored by all stations on frequency.  More to come.
